One of my customers came to me asking for advice about saving their Google Workspace costs. They had around 40 users in Google Workspace which was commercially pinching their pocket.

After a little bit of search, I told them that they can move to Microsoft 365 Business Basic accounts for good amount of savings. They agreed to move but partially. They had important accounts and data in Google which they did not intend to move. They wanted to move only 20–25 users to M365 while others had to still remain in Google.

I knew that this can be done but had never worked on it. So, after seeing some youtube videos, I could find out the routing options in Google which would relay the mail to M365 if the mail account did not exist on Google.

With that done and accounts created on M365, the mails started coming to M365. However, whenever someone in M365 sent a mail to an internal user who had their account in Google workspace, the mail bounced. The solution to that was configuring a reverse route from M365 to Google workspace for the domain in consideration.

Now the customer has accounts in Google and M365 simultaneously and is saving huge amounts of monthly costs.

Thanks for reading :)
